So many cork men!

I’ve been riding my bike around the city a lot lately, in an effort to shape up and also save money on bus tickets. In the process, I’ve discovered SO MANY CORK MEN. It’s such a welcome and exciting surprise. More often than not, it ends up taking me about twice as long to get anywhere because I’m constantly pulling over to the side of the road, grabbing my camera, and snapping pictures. It’s very exciting. If I end up biking anywhere that takes longer than 30 minutes, I’m pretty much guaranteed a cork man… or 5!

So, I’ve added a bunch more cork men to my map. A huge thanks also to Kirsty Robinson who has been sending me pictures of cork men around Tempelhof that she’s discovered on her way to work. She’s sent me three – thanks so much! And to everyone else, keep your eyes up and remember to bring your camera! (and then send me all your pictures!)

A couple things….

So, I haven’t put any new books in my books section. Why is this? Well, because I haven’t actually finished any in a while… *ashamed face*. I’m in the middle of about 5 though, so hopefully I’ll be updating soon. Also, I’m trying not to take the bus/u bahn anywhere in an effort to save money/be healthier, which of course means that the main time when I actually read is gone.

On another note, I’ve added a couple more cork men to my map. The other day I biked all the way up to Wedding which was an adventure in itself and found a cork man on the way on Karl-Liebknecht Strasse by Alexanderplatz, and also one on Badstrasse by Gesundbrunnen. It was very cool to see them elsewhere and not just around my house.

Unfortunately there’s some sad news in the cork man/street art world. To my shock and horror, the amazing street art collage on the corner of Böhmische Strasse and Hertzbergstrasse has been destroyed. Some jerk covered the whole bulletin board over with advertisements for something I’m sure is incredibly lame. To be honest, I didn’t even look to see what the posters were for, I just stopped my daily neighbourhood jog and gawked in horror and anger. It’s really a shame. There were so many local street artists who contributed to that board. I always loved walking/jogging past and looking to see what had been added. And now it’s gone… But, someone has painted over the advertisements in white paint and some angry spray painting has commenced and hopefully an awesome, collaborative board will again be born. When it does, I’ll take pictures and post them here.

Finding more cork men

Over the last week, I’ve discovered and handful of new cork men around my kiez, posted them on my map, and I’ve had the pleasure of having a quick sit down with the creator of these exciting little finds. I’m now totally inspired to do my own street art…
